Vinyl 2 Lite Sliders:
These are sliding windows that roll left and right, like mini, sliding glass doors. Used in some counties where egress from a bedroom is required by local building codes.
Pros:
1) Can give a room an illusion of a taller ceiling.
2) Uses a less obstructive view if desired.
3) Can be made to larger sizes as a single window to replace opening that have smaller multiple sets joined.
4) More cost effective in sizes up to 7 feet wide.
5) Very familiar style for a Frank Lloyd Wright Home.
Cons:
1) Generally a more expensive sliding window in the same sizes as a current opening that has only one window i.e. 36 inches wide.
2) Harder to clean the exterior of the window from the inside but still can be done.
Vinyl 3 Lite Sliders:
These are sliding windows that have a fixed center pane or picture window. The outer panes left and right slide inward and meet in the middle. Also used in some counties where egress from a bedroom is required by local building codes. Some of the same pros and cons exist. They are:
Pros:
1) Can give a room an illusion of a taller ceiling.
2) Used a less obstructive view is desired.
3) Can be made to larger sizes as a single window to replace opening that have smaller multiple sets joined.
4) More cost effective in sizes to almost 10 feet wide.
5) Very familiar style for a Frank Lloyd Wright Home.
6) Less expensive in current openings that already have 3 windows joined together.
Cons:
1) Generally, a 3 Lite slider a little more expensive of sliding windows in the same sizes as a current opening that already has 2 windows joined together i.e. 105 inches wide.
2) Harder to clean the exterior of the window from the inside but still can be done except the center. The center pane will usually have to be cleaned from the outside.
3) Depending on local building codes, there may be height limitations depending on the total width.
